MIAMI (AP) -The Florida Marlins optioned reliever Taylor Tankersley to Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday and recalled right-hander Lee Gardner.
Tankersley went 2-1 with a 2.85 ERA in 49 games last season, but has struggled so far this year. The left-hander is 4-1 with a 6.65 ERA in 2007.
“We need him to be what he was last year,” Florida manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “He’s just not getting the job done. … I think his last words to me were, ‘I’ll be back.”’
Gardner pitched in 23 games earlier this season for the Marlins, going 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA.
