WASHINGTON (AP) -The Washington Nationals acquired Rule 5 draft pick Levale Speigner from Minnesota on Sunday in a trade that returns the right-hander to his former team.
Washington sent minor league outfielder Darnell McDonald to the Twins.
Speigner was 2-3 with an 8.78 ERA in 19 games, including six starts, for the Nationals before he was designated for assignment on June 19. The Nationals had to offer him back to Minnesota – the team from which Washington picked him in the Rule 5 draft – once he cleared waivers and the Twins accepted.
Speigner will report to Triple-A Columbus.
McDonald hit .315 with two home runs and 41 RBIs in 73 games for Columbus.
