ATLANTA (AP) -The Boston Red Sox released left-handed reliever J.C. Romero on Monday after designating for assignment earlier this month.
Romero went 1-0 with a 3.15 ERA in 23 games for the Red Sox this season, walking 15 batters in 20 innings and striking out 11. The Red Sox removed him from the 25-man roster on June 8 to make room for Mike Timlin.
Romero signed in the offseason to a one-year, $1.6 million deal with incentives.
