NEW YORK (AP) -Mets catcher Paul Lo Duca left Sunday night’s game against the New York Yankees with a bruised left triceps, three innings after he was hit by a pitch.
Lo Duca was plunked on the back of his non-throwing arm by Chien-Ming Wang’s third pitch of the game. He grimaced in pain and walked slowly to first base. The All-Star catcher was slow getting down the line on a fourth-inning groundout and was replaced behind the plate in the bottom half by Ramon Castro.
Mets starter Orlando Hernandez hit Bobby Abreu in the right shoulder with a fifth-inning pitch.
After getting three hits Saturday, Lo Duca batted second Sunday night for the first time since April 30. He was in the No. 2 spot most of last year and early this season.
Lo Duca began the night hitting .300 with three homers and 17 RBIs.
