CLEVELAND (AP) -Infielder Beau Mills, Cleveland’s first-round pick in this month’s draft, agreed Friday to a minor league contract with a signing bonus of $1,575,000.
Mills, the son of Boston Red Sox bench coach Brad Mills, was the No. 13 overall selection by the Indians.
The 20-year-old batted .458 with 38 home runs and 123 RBIs in 62 games during his junior season at Lewis-Clark State (Lewiston, Idaho). He set an NAIA single-season home-run record while helping the school defend its NAIA title.
Mills spent two years at Fresno State before transferring. He batted .319 with 22 homers and 63 RBIs in 59 games as a freshman for the Bulldogs. The next year, he hit .355 with 14 homers and 58 RBIs in 52 games.
