OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona was ejected in the eighth inning of Wednesday night’s game against the Oakland Athletics for arguing balls and strikes.
Francona was tossed by plate umpire Dan Iassogna after saying something from the Boston dugout during Dustin Pedroia’s at-bat. Francona then came out of the dugout and got into a heated argument with Iassogna, throwing something to the ground at one point.
Francona and designated hitter David Ortiz had gotten into an argument with Iassogna in the sixth inning after the umpire called Ortiz out on an attempted check swing.
This was Francona’s first ejection of the season.
