PITTSBURGH (AP) -Dodgers manager Grady Little was ejected for arguing a close call at home plate during the fourth inning of Sunday’s game in Pittsburgh.
With one out and the Pirates’ Xavier Nady on third, pitcher Tom Gorzelanny hit a grounder to first base against a drawn-in infield. Nomar Garciaparra’s throw to catcher Russell Martin arrived as Nady was sliding across the plate, with umpire Bill Welke signaling safe after Martin tagged Nady on his upper-right leg or right arm.
Martin argued the call immediately, and Little was ejected shortly after leaving the dugout to question Welke’s call.
Little also was thrown out of an April 21 game against the Pirates by umpire Joe West for arguing ball and strike calls.
