DETROIT (AP) -Detroit Tigers second baseman Placido Polanco left Saturday’s game against Cleveland after the sixth inning because of a muscle spasm in his oblique.
The injury may have happened while running the bases in the sixth inning. He was listed as day-to-day.
Polanco is hitting .326 with a homer and 26 RBIs. He’s also second in the American League with a .447 average with runners in scoring percentage.
After Polanco’s leadoff double, Gary Sheffield lined a sharp single to right. Third base coach Gene Lamont originally waived Polanco in, then held him up at the last minute. Polanco, in full stride, appeared to hurt himself when he stopped abruptly.
