CHICAGO (AP) -Oakland right-hander Justin Duchscherer went on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a right hip strain, leaving the Athletics without two of their top relievers.
Oakland has nine players on the disabled list, including Duchscherer and closer Huston Street.
The A’s called up right-hander Colby Lewis from Triple-A Sacramento to take Duchscherer’s spot and he was slated to start against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night. Lewis went 5-1 with a 2.31 ERA in eight starts for Sacramento.
The move with Duchscherer is retroactive to May 15. He is 3-3 with a 4.96 ERA in 17 relief appearances for Oakland.
Street was placed on the disabled list last Tuesday, retroactive to May 13, with nerve irritation in his right elbow.
