WASHINGTON (AP) -The Washington Nationals put right-hander Jerome Williams back on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday after one start and selected left-hander Billy Traber’s contract from Triple-A Columbus.
The Nationals also transferred first baseman Nick Johnson from the 15-day to the 60-day DL to make room on the 40-man roster for Traber. Johnson is recovering from a broken right leg.
Williams, 0-5 with a 7.20 ERA this season, has a strained right shoulder that forced him out of Tuesday night’s 6-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves in the third inning.
He had been on the disabled list with a left ankle injury but was activated so he could start Tuesday.
Williams joins John Patterson and Shawn Hill as members of Washington’s opening day rotation who are now on the DL.
