WASHINGTON (AP) -The Washington Nationals reinstated right-handed pitcher Jerome Williams from the 15-day disabled list so that he could start Tuesday night against the Atlanta Braves.
Williams sprained his left ankle while swinging during an at-bat in his last start, April 28 against the New York Mets. He allowed one run in six innings during a rehab start Thursday for Triple-A Columbus.
Williams was 0-4 with a 6.11 ERA in five starts entering Tuesday.
To make room for Williams, the Nationals optioned outfielder Kory Casto to Columbus on Monday. Casto batted .140 in 54 at-bats with the big league club.
“I just want him to play every day,” manager Manny Acta said.
