ATLANTA (AP) -The Los Angeles Dodgers called up third baseman Andy LaRoche from Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday and placed Marlon Anderson on the 15-day disabled list.
LaRoche was listed in the Dodgers' starting lineup Sunday for the game against the Atlanta Braves.
The move came one day after manager Grady Little announced he was benching third baseman Wilson Betemit, who then hit a pinch-hit homer, his first of the season, in Saturday night's 6-3 win over the Braves.
Despite the homer, Betemit is hitting only .140.
LaRoche was hitting .235 with three homers and 11 RBIs for Las Vegas. LaRoche was to make his major league debut Sunday in Atlanta where his brother, first baseman Adam LaRoche, played the last three seasons. The Braves traded Adam LaRoche to Pittsburgh in the offseason.
The Dodgers also reinstated right-handed pitcher Yhency Brazoban from the disabled list and optioned him to Las Vegas.
Anderson, a backup infielder and outfielder, was placed on the disabled list with a sore right elbow. The move was made retroactive to Saturday. Anderson was hitting .222 in 18 at-bats.
