PITTSBURGH (AP) -Pirates left-hander Tom Gorzelanny will miss his scheduled start Tuesday against San Francisco because of a strained lower back, but expects to pitch next weekend against Atlanta.
Gorzelanny’s back bothered him during the fifth inning of a 13-1 victory over the Mets on Wednesday, causing him to be lifted after the inning. He also had back discomfort during an April 13 start against the Reds.
Gorzelanny (2-3, 6.91 ERA) is expected to start next Saturday against the Braves.
Also, Pirates shortstop Jack Wilson, out since April 3 with a calf injury, did not begin a rehabilitation assignment at Double-A Altoona on Saturday as expected.
Wilson felt some discomfort during an extended spring training game Friday in Fort Myers, Fla. He is expected to play several more games in Florida before beginning his rehabilitation assignment.
