WASHINGTON (AP) – An MRI shows no ”structural issues” in Ryan Zimmerman’s shoulder as the Washington Nationals third baseman looks for answers for his latest throwing woes.
Manager Matt Williams says Zimmerman has some inflammation in the right shoulder and will be re-evaluated after Monday’s day off.
Williams says Zimmerman is perhaps suffering from ”throwing overload” from working so hard on the problem.
Zimmerman’s shoulder has been bothering him for two years. He committed 16 throwing errors last year after shoulder surgery.
His throwing improved late in the season, but the wildness prompted consideration of a permanent move to first base.
Zimmerman did not start Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Braves. He struck out as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning.
