TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -Los Angeles Angels outfielder Gary Matthews Jr. injured his right ankle Monday and is day-to-day.
At first, it appeared Matthews was seriously hurt. He singled and stole second against San Diego’s Randy Wolf, then headed toward the dugout after Garret Anderson struck out to end the first inning.
Matthews collapsed on the field and needed help getting up before manager Mike Scioscia and a trainer walked him off the field. Matthews was taken to a hospital for X-rays.
