MILWAUKEE (AP) -The Milwaukee Brewers have placed starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo (geye-YAR’-doh) on the 15-day disabled list with a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee.
The right-hander, who is expected to be in the season-opening rotation, had minor knee surgery at the start of training camp.
As a rookie last season, Gallardo started 17 games and made three relief appearances, going 9-5 with a 3.67 ERA.
The Brewers on Friday also optioned utility player Vinny Rottino and left-handed pitcher Mitch Stetter to Triple-A Nashville.
