TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – Derek Jeter was back to work at the New York Yankees’ minor league complex, a day after announcing this will be his final season.
The Yankees captain arrived about 9:30 a.m. Thursday and was applauded by approximately 50 fans lined up on the sidewalk outside. He did not stop as he drove in and gave a small wave as he walked into the facility.
Masahiro Tanaka also arrived, wearing a Yankees T-shirt and shorts. He was presented Tuesday at Yankee Stadium after agreeing last month to a $155 million, seven-year contract.
Jeter stayed about 90 minutes and took batting practice. Afterward, he stopped his car to sign about a dozen autographs.
Regarding his decision, Jeter said, ”I feel good about it. I’ll address it all next week.”
