Big ninth inning propels Red Sox
Boston rallied in the last three innings Saturday night to secure a 9-6 victory at Los Angeles in Game 5 of the World Series to take a 3-1 series lead. After trailing 4-0 in the top of the seventh, a pinch-hit 3-run homer by Mitch Moreland brought the Red Sox within a run. Boston proceeded to tie the game in the eighth, while a five-run ninth inning blew it wide open. Steve Pearce was 2-for-4 with a game-tying solo homer in the eighth plus a double, a walk, two runs and four RBIs. Xander Bogaerts was 1-for-4 with a walk, a run and an RBI. Brock Holt finished 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and two runs. Joe Kelly allowed three hits and struck out three in two innings of relief to pick up the win.
Puig, Hernandez homer in loss
Yasiel Puig helped send Los Angeles to a 4-0 lead in the sixth inning with a 3-run homer last night. It was his only hit in four at-bats. Enrique Hernandez was 1-for-2 with a 2-run homer in the ninth inning that brought the hosts within three runs. Justin Turner finished 3-for-4 with a double and a run. Manny Machado was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run. Chris Taylor ended the contest 2-for-3 plus a walk. Dylan Floro suffered the loss in relief as he surrendered three earned runs on two hits plus a walk in two-thirds of an inning.
David Price (16-7, 3.58 ERA) will start tonight for the Red Sox, while the Dodgers are going with Clayton Kershaw (9-5, 2.73).
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox are 7-1 in their last eight playoff games. Boston is 15-3 in its last 18 World Series games.
Los Angeles
The under is 7-1-1 in the last nine Dodgers home playoff games. Los Angeles is 4-10 in the last 14 meetings.
Prediction:
The Dodgers have to be a bit demoralized after blowing a four-run lead last night and what would have been an even series. Los Angeles has overthought lefty-righty matchups and taken hitters like Max Muncy and Cody Bellinger out with a lefty starter, but did roll them both out last night with a lefty on the mound and will likely do the same tonight. But Price has been in a zone, while Boston has already hit Kershaw hard once. Even if Kershaw looks more like himself, I don’t trust the LA bullpen in a do-or-die game. Look for the Red Sox to build on last night and celebrate a World Series title tonight.
