Soto leads charge in Game 1
Washington secured a 5-4 Game 1 victory at Houston Tuesday night to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 World Series. Juan Soto paced the Nationals offensively as he finished 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs. Ryan Zimmerman was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Adam Eaton ended the night 2-for-4 with an RBI. Max Scherzer picked up the win on the mound as he gave up two earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and three walks over five innings. Sean Doolittle notched the save as he retired all four batters he faced with one strikeout. Stephen Strasburg will draw the start tonight after he earned the win in Game 3 of the NLCS in an 8-1 triumph over St. Louis as he gave up one unearned run on seven hits with 12 strikeouts and no walks over seven innings.
Cole takes rare loss
Gerrit Cole lost his first decision since May 22 Monday night in Game 1 of the World Series as Houston fell 5-4 at home against Washington. Cole allowed five earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and one walk over seven innings to take the loss. George Springer led the Nationals offense as he finished 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two walks, two runs scored and two RBIs. Yuli Gurriel ended the game 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Yordan Alvarez was 2-for-3 plus a walk. Justin Verlander takes the hill tonight after allowing four earned runs on five hits with nine strikeouts and no walks over seven innings in a 4-1 loss in Game 5 of the ALCS at New York.
MLB Betting Trends
Washington
The Nationals are 5-0 in their last five road games. Washington is 41-16 in its last 57 games.
Houston
The Astros are 6-1 in their last seven games following a loss. Houston is 36-15 in its last 51 games overall.
Prediction:
This line is still a little too wide for me. Strasburg has been excellent in his postseason career and that has remained the same this month, while the Nationals offense is flying high knowing if it can get to Cole it can get to anyone. Verlander settled down after the first inning in Game 5 of the ALCS, but he still has been a little shaky for his standards his last three playoff starts. I’m going to take a shot at Washington again in Game 2, knowing that after banking on Game 1 it is a profit even with a Nats loss. Of course, a win would mean a very nice two-day payday. Houston also has had some distractions and controversy off the field and while it probably is not impacting its play, that is still something keeping the team from laser focus.
