Calgary is 2-1-0 after a 2-0 victory Monday at Anaheim. Los Angeles is 2-0-0 following Saturday’s 4-1 win at San Jose. The Flames won three of five meetings last year and the over-under went 1-2-2.
On Monday, Calgary saw a 43-save performance from Mike Smith to post the shutout. Mikael Backlund and Sean Monahan scored a goal each. Michael Frolik, Johnny Gaudreau, Matthew Tkachuk and Kris Versteeg all had assists.
Anze Kopitar had two goals and an assist for the Kings in their win at San Jose on Saturday. Dustin Brown and Nick Shore each had a goal. Brown also notched an assist. Jonathan Quick recorded 23 saves to get the win.
Quick is back in great form after missing most of last year with an injury, while the Flames are in solid form with Smith in net this year. Both squads can have the occasional struggles scoring the puck and it wouldn’t be surprising at all to see it creep up here. This game has the makings of going under the total.
