He allowed three earned runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts and one walk over 6 1/3 innings in a 5-0 home loss to the Cubs his last start. Anderson has a 3.12 ERA in 13 road starts. Gant has surrendered five earned runs on 10 hits with eight strikeouts and seven walks over 12 1/3 innings in seven appearance this season. He made his first start his last outing, giving up one earned run on three hits with no strikeouts and two walks over three innings in a 4-1 loss at the Pirates.
The Brewers are 84-75 on the season and 40-38 on the road, while St. Louis is 82-77 and 43-35 at home. Milwaukee has won seven of the last 10 meetings and the over-under is 6-3-1.
On Thursday, the Brewers secured a 4-3 home win over the Reds to pull within two games of the Rockies for the second NL Wild Card spot. Neil Walker was 2-for-3 with a double and a run to lead the way. Eric Sogard was 1-for-2 with two walks and a run. Brett Phillips was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Brent Suter allowed three earned runs in five innings to get the win. St. Louis was officially eliminated from NL Wild Card contention with a 2-1 11-inning home loss to the rival Cubs Thursday night. Tommy Pham was 2-for-4 with a walk, two stolen bases and a run. Matt Bowman took the loss in relief.
The Cardinals may or may not run their starters out there. Some veterans may opt to rest for a day now that there is nothing to play for. Milwaukee certainly still has something to play for and is send the reliable Anderson to the mound. Expect the Brewers to figure out Gant relatively quickly and be on their way to a victory.
