Cardinals vs. Cubs Prediction
The Chicago Cubs are playoff-bound, but they are still in a fight for the NL Central title as they hold a one-game advantage over the Milwaukee Brewers. Will the rival St. Louis Cardinals pick up an important victory of their own today at Chicago as they trail in the race for the second NL Wild Card spot by one game?

Cardinals swept at home
St. Louis suffered three crushing losses in its bid to win an NL Wild Card spot as it was swept at home by Milwaukee earlier this week, losing Wednesday’s finale by a 2-1 score. The Cardinals were held to two hits as Matt Carpenter was 0-for-2, but walked twice and scored the lone run. Jose Martinez finished 1-for-4, while Paul DeJong was 1-for-3 with a double. Chasen Shreve took the loss in relief as he walked the only batter he faced and allowed an earned run.
Lester throws six shutout frames
The Cubs salvaged a split of their four-game home series against the Pirates, winning the final two games including yesterday’s 3-0 victory. Jon Lester grinded through six shutout innings to get the win as he allowed three hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Jesse Chavez gave up a hit and struck out one to earn his fourth save. Javier Baez helped pace the offense as he was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Ian Happ finished 2-for-3 with a walk and a run. David Bote ended the contest 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs.
Adam Wainwright (2-3, 4.08 ERA) will start today for St. Louis, while Chicago counters with Kyle Hendricks (13-11, 3.49).
MLB Betting Trends
St. Louis
The over is 8-1 in the last nine Cardinals games overall. St. Louis is 15-5 in its last 20 road games.
Chicago
The under is 9-1 in the last 10 Cubs home games. Chicago is 13-4 in its last 17 home games versus the Cardinals.
Prediction:
St. Louis is struggling right now, but does have the benefit of coming off a rest day. I don’t think it matters, however, as Chicago is staying at home and has the red-hot Hendricks on the mound. The Cubs will be properly motivated for this one and they are the right team to bet on as they look to keep their division lead over the Brewers.
