Yankees take three of four at Tampa Bay
New York dominated to the tune of 12-1 in yesterday’s series finale at the Rays. Brett Gardner helped lead the way from the leadoff spot as he went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, a walk three runs and an RBI. Aaron Judge was 0-for-2, but did walk twice. Luke Voit went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Giancarlo Stanton finished 2-for-3 with two home runs, two walks, three runs and two RBIs. Miguel Andujar finished 2-for-4 with a home run, a run and three RBIs. Angel Hechavarria was 2-for-4 and scored a run. CC Sabathia cruised through five shutout innings as he allowed only one hit with five strikeouts and no walks before being ejected for intentionally hitting Jesus Sucre with his first pitch of the sixth inning.
Red Sox split home doubleheader
Boston split a doubleheader at Fenway Park Wednesday as they rolled by a 19-3 score over the Orioles in the afternoon game before falling 10-3 in the nightcap. Rafael Devers had a huge game in the opener as he was 4-for-6 with two home runs, a double and six RBIs. J.D. Martinez went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, three runs and three RBIs. Xander Bogaerts ended the contest 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two runs and four RBIs. Blake Swihart finished 2-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored. David Price earned the win as he gave up three earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts and three walks over five innings. In game two, Devers was 1-for-3 with a double plus a walk with a run scored. Tzu-Wei Lin was 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Matt Barnes suffered the loss in relief as he was shelled for three earned runs on four hits with one strikeout and one walk in one-third of an inning.
J.A. Happ (16-6, 3.57 ERA) will start today for the Yankees, while the Red Sox are turning to Brian Johnson (4-4, 4.11).
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The over is 7-1 in the last eight Yankees games following a win. New York is 15-7 in its last 22 road games.
Boston
The over is 6-1-1 in the last eight Red Sox games overall. Boston is 43-15 in its last 58 home game.
Prediction:
Boston could conceivably rest players here, but my gut feeling is that the regulars will all play. Happ is a tough pitcher, but the Red Sox are familiar with what he has to offer. Johnson is nothing special, but he usually can keep his squad in the game. With Boston being so good at home, I’m going to take advantage of it being an underdog today.
MLB DAILY PREDICTION: BOSTON RED SOX +120
