Tigers hammered in series finale
Detroit lost by a count of 9-3 Thursday night in a series finale at the Twins. Christin Stewart was 3-for-4 with an RBI to help pace the offense. Jacoby Jones walked twice in four plate appearances and scored a run. Dawel Lugo went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks. Francisco Liriano took the loss as he gave up four earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks over 2 2/3 innings.
Brewers complete road sweep at Cards
Milwaukee secured three important wins at St. Louis, taking Wednesday’s series finale 2-1. Christian Yelich received star treatment from Cardinals pitching as he walked in all five of his plate appearances and scored both Brewers runs. Travis Shaw went 2-for-4 and drove in both runs. Jhoulys Chacin picked up the win as he gave up one earned run on one hit with three strikeouts and two walks over five innings. Jeremy Jeffress picked up his 13th save as he allowed one hit with two strikeouts over 1 1/3 innings.
Jordan Zimmermann (7-8, 4.31) will take the mound today for the Tigers, while the Brewers turn to Zach Davies (2-7, 4.65).
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The over is 6-1-1 in the last eight Tigers road games. Detroit is 3-8 in its last 11 Friday games.
Milwaukee
The under is 21-7-2 in the last 30 Brewers interleague games. Milwaukee is 19-7 in its last 26 games overall.
Prediction:
Detroit is marking down the days on its calendar, while at the worst the Brewers will be playing in the NL Wild Card Game. A win today coupled by a Cubs loss would draw Milwaukee even in the NL Central standings. While Zimmermann has been closer to average this season, he’ll be going through a buzzsaw of a lineup today. With Davies also struggling, I think the Tigers can also score some runs here today. If you don’t want to pay the price on Milwaukee or take a chance on the runline bet, the over is a good alternative.
