Sox seek AL’s top seed
The Red Sox need just one more win or one more loss from the Astros to earn the top seed in the AL playoffs for home-field. It didn’t come the last two days as they have lost two straight to the Indians in Cleveland. Boston is 105-51 overall with a 54-21 record at home. The Red Sox are putting up 5.30 runs per game this year while giving up 3.92 per contest.
Nathan Eovaldi gets the start for Boston tonight. He has started 19 games in 2018 and carries a 5-7 record with a 3.98 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. Eovaldi has pitched a total of 104.0 innings and has 87 strikeouts with 20 walks.
Orioles drop another series
Despite winning on Sunday in New York, the Orioles dropped a series to the Yankees this week. Baltimore is now 45-110 overall and 18-60 on the road. The Orioles are putting up 3.85 runs per game on offense while allowing 5.50 per contest.
Dylan Bundy gets the start for the Orioles tonight. He has pitched in 29 games and has an 8-15 record with a 5.37 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. Bundy has pitched a total of 162.2 innings this year and has 172 strikeouts with 50 walks.
MLB Betting Trends
Baltimore
The Orioles are 3-14 in their last 17 Monday games and 0-6 in Bundy’s last six road starts.
Boston
The Red Sox are 7-1 in their last eight Monday games and they have won 19 of their last 26 meetings with the Orioles.
Prediction:
Eovaldi hasn’t been great this year, but Boston is at home against a Baltimore team that has just 18 road wins. Given the Sox can lock up the AL with a win and start focusing on the postseason, I find it hard to believe they will come out flat on their home field. Baltimore just doesn’t have much to offer as a team right now, especially against a team like Boston.
The Pick: Boston Red Sox -230
