Brantley singles home winning run
Michael Brantley hit a walk-off RBI single which scored Rajai Davis Saturday night to send Cleveland to a 5-4 win over the Red Sox. Brantley finished the contest 3-for-6 with the RBI. Francisco Lindor was 2-for-5 with a walk and two RBIs. Jose Ramirez was 0-for-2 with three walks and a run. Edwin Encarnacion walked twice in five plate appearances. Josh Donaldson was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Yan Gomes went 2-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI. Jason Kipnis finished 1-for-2 with a walk. Tyler Olson struck out two in two spotless innings of relief to record the win.
Devers, Swihart homer in loss
Andrew Benintendi was 1-for-4 with two walks and two RBIs from the leadoff spot in yesterday’s loss at the Indians. Rafael Devers and Blake Swihart were each 1-for-5 with a solo home run. J.D. Martinez and Xander Boegarts both went 1-for-4 plus a walk. Mitch Moreland was 1-for-2 with two walks. Drew Pomeranz took the loss in relief as he gave up one earned run on three hits without recording an out.
Hector Velazquez (7-2, 3.18 ERA) will start today for Boston, while Cleveland counters with Adam Plutko (4-5, 5.27).
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox are 6-2 in their last eight games following a loss. Boston is 19-7 in its last 26 Sunday games.
Cleveland
The Indians are 39-16 in their last 55 game threes of a series. Cleveland is 1-5 in Plutko’s last six starts.
Prediction:
Boston is sending the more trustworthy pitcher to the mound, although the case could be made that with these two offenses the over on the total deserves serious consideration. I’m going with Boston, however, as it should be able to establish a lead iwth Velazquez on the mound before giving way to the bullpen. While it can be a shaky bullpen at times, there should be some cushion to work with. Go with the visitors tonight.
