Marlins vs. Diamondbacks Pick
Oddsmakers at Bovada.lv have listed the Diamondbacks as a -170 favorite to win on the moneyline. The Marlins are a +145 underdog and the over-under is 10.5.
On the bump for Miami will be Dillon Peters (0-2, 5.40 ERA), while Arizona counters with Taijuan Walker (9-8, 3.45). Peters has a 1.66 WHIP with 22 strikeouts over 21 1/3 innings. After three positive MLB starts, his fourth was a disaster as he allowed eight earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and three walks in 3 2/3 innings in a 10-3 home loss to Milwaukee. Walker has a 1.32 WHIP with 134 strikeouts over 148 2/3 innings. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and three walks over five innings in a 7-2 loss at the Giants his last time out. Walker has a 4.01 ERA in 11 home starts.
Miami is 72-81 on the season and 32-44 on the road, while Arizona is 89-65 and 49-27 at home. The Marlins have won three of five meetings in the season series and the total has gone over three times.
Friday's game was an offensive showcase as the D-backs prevailed 13-11. Chris Iannetta was 3-for-4 with two home runs, a walk and eight RBIs. He becomes only the second catcher in MLB history with two games in the same season with seven or more RBIs. David Peralta went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Paul Goldschmidt was 2-for-3 with a double, two walks and three runs. J.D. Martinez finished 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, three runs and two RBIs. Ketel Marte went 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Christian Walker added a pinch-hit home run. J.J. Hoover earned the win in relief. Dee Gordon was 3-for-6 with a run and an RBI for the Marlins. Chrisian Yelich was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Marcel Ozuna finished 2-for-4 with two home runs, a walk, three runs and three RBIs. Justin Bour hit a three-run homer. JT Realmuto was 3-for-5 with a double and a run. Derek Dietrich finished 2-for-4 with a run. Dustin McGowan took the loss in relief.
The Diamondbacks have scored a combined 26 runs the last two games, scoring 13 in the series finale at San Diego before doing the same last night. Peters appears to have a bright future, but the Brewers recently knocked his confidence down and now he faces a juggernaut lineup in a hitter's haven. And Walker has certainly not been flawless as he heads into this start against a lineup boasting Gordon at the top followed by a bunch of sluggers. Now isn't the time to go away from a pair of hot offenses.
