Cubs vs. Brewers Pick
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Cubs are a -136 favorite to win on the moneyline. The Brewers are a +116 underdog and the over-under is set at 9.
Pitching for Chicago will be Kyle Hendricks (7-5, 3.22 ERA), while Milwaukee will turn to Brent Suter (3-2, 3.41). Hendricks has a 1.18 WHIP with 108 strikeouts in 128 2/3 innings. He allowed one earned run on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk over 7 2/3 innings in a 4-1 home win over the Cardinals. Hendricks has a 3.25 ERA in nine road starts. Suter comes in with a 1.28 WHIP with 58 strikeouts over 71 1/3 innings. He gave up no runs on five hits with four strikeouts and no walks in a 3-0 win at the Pirates his last start. Suter has a 3.93 ERA in 36 2/3 home innings.
The Cubs have an 86-67 record and are 40-35 on the road, while the Brewers come in at 81-73 and 41-35 at home. The two teams have split the last 10 meetings 5-5 and the total has gone under seven times including the last three games.
On Friday night, Chicago won a second straight game in the series via a 5-4 final in 10 innings. Jon Jay led the way as he was 2-for-5 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Kris Bryant was 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs and an RBI. Anthony Rizzo was 2-for-4 with a walk. Ben Zobrist added a hit and two RBIs. Carl Edwards Jr. earned the win in relief. Eric Sogard went 2-for-5 for the Brewers. Ryan Braun was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Stephen Vogt and Brett Phillips each hit a solo home run. Corey Knebel took the loss in relief.
The Cubs have the Brewers' number the same way Milwaukee had it against Chicago at Wrigley Field earlier this month. These losses are coming at a terrible time for the Brewers and one more would be a severe blow to their fading wild card chances. No doubt the Cubs would like to put in another dagger and Hendricks is a very reliable arm for them to turn to in order to get the task done.
