Rendon homers in defeat
Washington lost at St. Louis Monday night by a score of 4-2 to drop to 82-66 overall and 42-35 on the road. Anthony Rendon led the Nationals offensively as he finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Victor Robles was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Yan Gomes also ended the game 1-for-3. Stephen Strasburg took the loss as he gave up two earned runs on three hits with six strikeouts and four walks across five innings. Patrick Corbin gets the start for Washington as he enters with a 12-7 record, 3.20 ERA and 1.15 WHIP plus 213 strikeouts over 185 2/3 innings of work.
Ozuna drives in four
Marcell Ozuna homered and drove in four runs Monday night to help lead St. Louis to a 4-2 home victory over Washington. Ozuna went 2-for-4 with the homer plus a double. Dexter Fowler ended the contest 0-for-2 with two walks. Tommy Edman finished 2-for-4. Dakota Hudson picked up the win as he gave up two earned runs on five hits with one strikeout and two walks over seven innings. Carlos Martinez retired the only batter he faced to record his 20th save. Miles Mikolas will start tonight as he comes in with a 9-13 record, 4.28 ERA and 1.22 WHIP plus 136 strikeouts over 170 1/3 innings pitched.
MLB Betting Trends
The Nationals are 11-5 in the last 16 Corbin starts. Washington is 2-6 in its last eight games versus a right-handed starter.
The Cardinals are 4-1 in their last five Tuesday games. St. Louis is 4-1 in the last five Mikolas starts.
Both of these teams need every win it can get and while the Cardinals are very good at home, the Nationals have the better starting pitcher on the mound. With St. Louis taking the opener, I think the Nats even it up here as they get a little more offense going while enjoying a strong Corbin outing.
