Peraza has two-hit night
Cincinnati lost 8-2 Monday night at Chicago to drop to 70-81 overall and 30-46 on the road. Jose Peraza finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Eugenio Suarez went 0-for-2 with three walks. Phillip Ervin was 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and an RBI. Kevin Gausman took the loss as he gave up three earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts and no walks over two innings. Sonny Gray will start tonight for the Reds as he enters with a 10-8 record, 2.80 ERA and 1.09 WHIP plus 190 strikeouts over 163 2/3 innings pitched.
Schwarber powers Cubs to win
Chicago picked up an 8-2 victory at home Tuesday night over Cincinnati to improve to 82-68 overall and 51-24 at home. Kyle Schwarber helped lead the Cubs offensively as he finished 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Ben Zobrist ended the game 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Nicholas Castellanos went 1-for-5 with two RBIs. Alec Mills picked up the win in relief as he allowed one hit with three strikeouts and no walks over two scoreless innings. Yu Darvish starts tonight for Chicago as he comes in with a 6-6 record, 3.97 ERA and 1.11 WHIP plus 204 strikeouts across 163 1/3 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Cincinnati
The Reds are 16-5 in the last 21 Gray starts. Cincinnati is 1-8 in its last nine games versus the NL Central.
Chicago
The Cubs are 4-0 in the last four Darvish home starts. Chicago is 4-9 in its last 13 Tuesday games.
Prediction:
With the way these two starting pitchers, this could easily end as a 1-0 or 2-1 game even as hot as the Cubs offense has been lately. Gray’s final numbers his last start weren’t his best, but he carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning before having a poor inning at Seattle. Darvish is coming off six shutout innings with 14 strikeouts. While the pitchers are a coin toss, the Cubs are the much better team overall and have a great home record. I’m not looking into fading Chicago or Darvish here.
