Bote doubles in go-ahead run
Cubs rookie David Bote hit an RBI double to break a 4-4 tie in the top of the 10th inning last night to lift his squad to a 6-4 win at the Nationals. It was his only hit after entering the game off the bench. Taylor Davis added a pinch-hit RBI single later in the inning. Anthony Rizzo was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, a run and an RBI to help pace the offense. Ben Zobrist finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Kris Bryant went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Albert Almora Jr. ended the night 2-for-5 with a double and a run. Pedro Strop picked up the win in relief as he struck out two in a spotless inning of work. Jesse Chavez earned his third save of the season, giving up one hit and walking one with two strikeouts over one inning.
Reynolds homers in loss
Trea Turner finished 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in yesterday’s defeat for Washington. Anthony Rendon was 2-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI. Juan Soto completed the game 2-for-5 with a double. Mark Reynolds was 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs. Spencer Kieboom went 3-for-3 and scored a run. Jimmy Cordero suffered the loss in relief, giving up two earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts and a walk over one inning.
Jon Lester (15-5, 3.53 ERA) will start tonight for the Cubs, while the Nats counter with Joe Ross (0-0, 0.00).
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are 12-4 in their last 16 games overall. Chicago is 9-1 in Lester’s last 10 road starts.
Washington
The over is 10-2-1 in Ross’ last 13 home starts. Washington is 1-4 in its last five versus the NL Central.
Prediction:
The Cubs are the better team and have Lester on the mound, who has rebounded since a rough patch. Ross is an unknown coming into tonight as he is making his first MLB start of the season after returning from an arm injury. Chicago is definitely the safer pick tonight and it wouldn’t have surprised me to seee it as an even bigger favorite.
