Phillies’ Velasquez lasts only five innings but draws win vs. Jays
Vince Velasquez lasted just five innings but permitted only two runs in the Phillies’ 8-3 victory over the Blue Jays on Sunday. Velasquez yielded just three hits on the day, but six strikeouts and three walks got his pitch count (84) up a bit and manager Gabe Kapler decided to turn things over to his bullpen for the final 12 outs. The righty hasn’t gone more than five frames in any of his last four outings, although one of those was rain-shortened. Velasquez will go up against the Cubs at home next weekend.
Marlins’ Urena allows four runs over six innings vs. Red Sox
Jose Urena gave up four runs over six frames Tuesday, taking a no-decision in the Marlins’ loss to the Red Sox. Urena was pitching on eight days’ rest after serving a suspension for hitting Ronald Acuna with a pitch. He tied a season-low with two strikeouts and issued three free passes, with one of those walks coming around to score. Urena will take a 3-13 record into his matchup against the Phillies his next time out
MLB Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 4-10 in their last 14 games overall.
Miami
The Marlins are 8-22 in their last 30 games overall.
Prediction:
The Phillies are really scuffling at the plate and even though they’re taking on a Marlins team that they’ve racked up runs against in previous meetings, they’ll play today in spacious Marlins Park. The under is 4-1 in the last five meetings between these two teams in Miami and is 6-2-1 in the last nine meetings overall. Until the Phillies finds its offense I’m taking the under in their games.
The Pick: Phillies/Marlins under 8
