Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers at BetNow.eu, New York is the heavy favorite in this game, as the Yankees are getting odds of -350 to win. The Tigers are listed with a money line of +275 to prevail, while the over/under total has been set at 8.5 runs. The public betting for this game currently has 74 percent going on New York at home. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our MLB Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Tigers get upset in opener
The Tigers picked up a big upset win on Thursday, defeating the Yankees as a +285 underdog to snap a five-game losing streak. Detroit is 54-80 overall and 20-46 on the road. The Tigers are putting up 3.83 runs per game on offense while allowing 4.78 per contest.
Jordan Zimmerman will get the start for the Tigers tonight. He is 6-6 through 19 starts and carries a 4.38 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP. Zimmerman has 88 strikeouts and 17 walks over 100.2 innings of work this year.
Yankees in a funk
The Yankees have surprisingly lost three of their last four games following the loss on Thursday. The defeats have come at the hands of the Tigers and the White Sox. New York is now 84-50 overall and 46-23 at home. The Yankees are scoring 5.18 runs per game this year while allowing 4.05 per contest on defense.
Luis Severino gets the start for the Yankees tonight. He is 17-6 through 27 starts with a 3.27 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. Severino has logged 165.0 innings this year and has a total of 189 strikeouts with 41 walks.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers are just 8-22 in their last 30 Friday games and 2-6 in Zimmerman’s last eight starts.
New York
The Yankees are 23-5 in Severino’s last 28 home starts and 65-26 in their last 91 home games.
Prediction:
It was just a couple months ago that Severino was looking like a top Cy Young favorite with a 13-2 record and a 1.98 ERA. Since then, he has allowed at least three runs in nine of his last 10 starts and now has a 3.27 ERA. New York has struggled as of late, losing to some bottom feeders in the AL Central. They just acquired Andrew McCutchen, but I am not sure he will solve the issues of Aaron Judge being out of the lineup. Given the odds are so lofty for New York, I think Detroit has the better value tonight.
The Pick: Detroit Tigers +275
