San Diego Padres Fantasy Spin
Dinelson Lamet surrendered four runs over five innings on Saturday against the Red Sox with five strikeouts while not picking up a decision. Lamet allowed six hits, and he also walked three. The right-hander was strong in his previous two starts, but he just didn’t have command of his stuff; issuing the three walks and throwing 48-of-88 pitches for strikes. The 27-year-old flashes brilliance, but there’s some work to be done before he can be counted on as an every-start fantasy contributor. His ERA rises to 4.30 in 46 innings, and his K/BB mark in those innings is 60/20. Lamet does have a chance to bounce back on Thursday, as he’ll be facing the Giants.
San Francisco Giants Fantasy Spin
Madison Bumgarner didn’t factor into the decision while allowing two runs over five innings with five strikeouts against Oakland on Saturday. The one some call MadBum allowed four hits with one walk, and he fanned five. The veteran southpaw did allow one homer, but outside of that solo shot to lefty-killer Mark Canha, Bumgarner didn’t give up much hard contact to a lineup that often makes a ton of it. The 30-year-old lowers his ERA on the year to 3.71 over just-under 170 innings, and he improves his K/BB mark to 168/34. Bumgarner will look to make it back-to-back strong outings — and three-of-four — when he faces the Padres on Friday.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres are 3-13 in Lamet’s last 16 starts and are winless in his last five outings when facing an opponent from the National League West.
San Francisco
The Giants are 7-1 in Bumgarner’s last eight starts and have won eight of his last 10 outings when he faces an opponent with a losing record.
Prediction:
The Giants have won 11 of Bumgarner’s last 16 home starts versus the Padres and are 8-0 in his last eight starts at Oracle Park. They’re also 5-0 in his last five home starts versus an opponent with a losing record and are 4-1 in his last five outings when facing an NL West opponent. Meanwhile, the Padres have dropped five of Lamet’s last seven starts when he’s coming off five days of rest and are just 3-7 in his last seven outings on the road when facing an opponent with a losing record.
The Pick: San Francisco Giants -134
