Tigers rocked in finale at KC
Michael Fulmer was shelled for seven earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and no walks over 3 2/3 innings in Wednesday’s 9-2 loss at the Royals. Jose Iglesias went 1-for-2 and scored a run for the Tigers. Mikie Mahtook finished 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Grayson Greiner walked twice in four plate appearances.
Yanks lose two of three to ChiSox
New York dropped two of three at home in its series with the White Sox, falling 4-1 in Wednesday’s finale. Neil Walker led the offense by going 1-for-4 with a run scored. Gleyber Torres finished 2-for-4, while Ronald Torreyes was 1-for-3 with the lone RBI. CC Sabathia took the loss as he surrendered three earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks over six innings of work.
Francisco Liriano (3-9, 4.82 ERA) will start today for Detroit, while the Yankees counter with J.A. Happ (15-6, 3.80).
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers are 16-46 in their last 62 road games. Detroit is 17-43 in its last 60 games overall.
New York
The Yankees are 65-25 in their last 90 home games. New York is 8-3 in its last 11 Thursday games.
Prediction:
Liriano was signed in part by a Tigers team hoping they could flip him at the trading deadline for something decent. Instead, Liriano has struggled and been injured while teammate Mike Fiers was instead the pitcher to be dealt. New York has hitters who crush lefties and I don’t think the Tigers are any match for Happ. Take the hosts on the runline.
