Aaron Nola fanned nine over eight shutout innings to outduel Max Scherzer in the Phillies' 2-0 win over the Nationals on Thursday. Nola is very much in the mix for NL Cy Young honors now. He's sporting a 15-3 record, and he's overtaken Scherzer for second in ERA by a 2.1302 to 2.1303 margin. Jacob deGrom remains in the lead at 1.71, but his 8-8 record figures to hurt him with voters.

Nationals’ Scherzer strikes out 10 in tough loss vs. Phils

Max Scherzer lost after allowing two runs and two hits over seven innings Thursday against the Phillies. Scherzer struck out 10, but Aaron Nola outdueled him in this one, handing him his first loss since July 2 against the Red Sox. Scherzer has still allowed two runs or fewer in seven straight outings and 22 of 27 starts for the season.
