Rays’ Ryne Stanek set to open series vs. Braves
Stanek will serve as the Rays’ opening pitcher in Tuesday’s game against the Braves, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Stanek isslated for his 22nd “start” of the season, but it’s expected that he’ll only throw between one and two innings before giving way to the bullpen. According to Topkin, Yonny Chirinos lines up as the Rays’ primary pitcher once Stanek exits and should cover the bulk of the innings in relief.
Braves’ Teheran holds Pirates to one run in win
Julio Teheran was dominant for seven innings against the Pirates on Wednesday, allowing just one run on two hits in the 2-1 victory. He surrendered a run-scoring single to Colin Moran in the fifth inning for the only damage on his line in the boxscore. The right-hander punched out five batters against one walk in the quality start. He has been quite inconsistent this year, mixing good starts with bad to deliver an overall 9-7 record with a 4.09 ERA and nice 1.18 WHIP. If he keeps the ball in the yard like he did tonight he is good, but he has trouble doing that as indicated by his 23 homers allowed in 25 starts.
