Rangers shut down by White Sox
Texas did not record a hit until the sixth inning Sunday afternoon in a 2-0 loss at Chicago. Shin-Soo Choo led the Rangers offense with their only hit as he finished 1-for-2 with two walks. Nick Solak went 0-for-1 with two walks. Brock Burke took the loss as he allowed one earned run on two hits with five strikeouts and three walks over six innings of work. Mike Minor draws the start for Texas tonight as he enters with an 11-7 record, 3.17 ERA and 1.21 WHIP with 171 strikeouts over 167 1/3 innings pitched.
Angels drop fifth straight
Los Angeles lost its series finale at Houston Sunday afternoon by a score of 11-2 to drop to 63-70 overall and 30-39 on the road. Andrelton Simmons helped lead the Angels offensively as he went 1-for-3 with a solo home run plus a walk. Brian Goodwin was also 1-for-3 with a solo homer. Mike Trout ended the game 1-for-2 plus a walk. Jaime Barria took the loss as he gave up two earned runs on three hits with four strikeouts and three walks over 5 1/3 innings. Andrew Heaney gets the start tonight for LA as he comes in with a 3-3 record, 4.31 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 78 strikeouts over 64 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The Rangers are 4-1 in their last five games versus the AL West. Texas is 4-1 in the last five Minor starts.
Los Angeles
The Angels are 4-1 in their last five home games. Los Angeles is 4-0 in the last four Heaney starts.
Prediction:
Heaney was dominant in his last start at these same Rangers, giving up only one earned run and striking out 14 over eight innings. He has been inconsistent enough in his career to see that this is a good spot to fade him as a favorite. Texas has a better read on him having seen Heaney so recently and Minor has had a solid season with the occasional gem. Los Angeles has not been playing good baseball lately and I’m going to fade it as a decently sized favorite.
