Yankees take series opener
New York earned a 5-4 victory Monday night in its series opener at Seattle to improve to 86-47 overall and 37-27 on the road. Mike Ford led the Yankees offense as he finished 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs. Gleyber Torres went 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Austin Romine ended the contest 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI. J.A. Happ picked up the win as he allowed three earned runs on two hits with seven strikeouts and three walks over five innings. Aroldis Chapman notched the save as he struck out two in a perfect inning of work. Masahiro Tanaka will start tonight for New York as he enters with a 9-7 record, 4.68 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 121 strikeouts over 150 innings pitched.
Smith, Moore homer in defeat
Seattle fell by a count of 5-4 Monday night at home to drop to 56-76 overall and 29-38 at home. Dylan Moore paced the Mariners offense as he finished 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Mallex Smith ended the game 1-for-2 off the bench with a solo homer. Tom Murphy went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Tommy Milone took the look as the bulk reliever as he surrendered five earned runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out one and walking two. Yusei Kikuchi gets the start tonight for Seattle as he comes in with a 5-8 record, 5.19 ERA and 1.44 WHIP with 103 strikeouts over 135 1/3 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Yankees are 5-0 in their last five road games versus a left-handed starter. New York is 45-20 in its last 65 games overall.
Seattle
The Mariners are 4-1 in the last five Kikuchi starts. Seattle is 2-5 in its last seven home games.
Prediction:
New York has a bunch of lefty mashers and although Kikuchi was awesome in his last start, that came nine days ago and there might be some rust to shake off. With Tanaka on the mound, you almost have to throw out the numbers because he’s been pretty solid this season as long as he isn’t facing the Red Sox. I’m taking New York with confidence.
