Diamondbacks snap three-game skid
Arizona posted a 5-2 win Sunday afternoon at Milwaukee to improve to 65-66 overall and 35-34 on the road. Christian Walker paced the D-backs offensively as he finished 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Ketel Marte ended the contest 3-for-5 with a double and a run. Eduardo Escobar went 1-for-5 with a solo homer. Robbie Ray picked up the win as he threw five shutout innings with three hits allowed, six strikeouts and four walks. Archie Bradley notched the save as he allowed one hit and walked one over 1 1/3 innings pitched. Alex Young gets the start tonight for Arizona as he enters with a 5-3 record, 4.04 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 37 strikeouts over 49 innings pitched.
Giants edge Athletics
San Francisco scored two in the top of the seventh inning Sunday afternoon to overtake host Oakland in a 5-4 victory. Donovan Solano helped lead the Giants offense as he finished a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Evan Longoria went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Kevin Pillar was 1-for-4 with a double and a run. Sam Coonrod picked up the win in relief as he struck out one in a spotless inning of work. Will Smith gave up one hit in a scoreless ninth inning to notch his 30th save. Tyler Beede takes the hill today for San Francisco as he comes in with a 3-7 record, 5.82 ERA and 1.63 WHIP with 85 strikeouts over 86 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 5-2 in their last seven Monday games. Arizona is 2-6 in its last eight games versus a right-handed starter.
San Francsisco
The Giants are 4-1 in their last five Monday games. San Francisco is 0-6 in the last six Beede starts.
Prediction:
The Giants are better-suited to face lefties than right-handed pitching and Young fits that bill as a starter. This is likely to be a fairly low-scoring game, so if San Francisco can get to Young early it could be the difference. While Beede has struggled much of the time as a starter, he does have a good strikeout rate and a top-notch pitcher’s park to help him. I’m taking the hosts in this spot.
