Rangers’ Gallardo allows six in victory over Angels
Yovani Gallardo allowed two runs with six strikeouts over six innings in a victory over the Angels on Sunday. Gallardo allowed six hits, and he walked just one. It’s a pleasant rebound from his previous struggles, as the veteran right-hander didn’t get out of the fourth inning against the Diamondbacks. Gallardo now has a record on the season of 8-2, but his season ERA still sits at an ugly 6.06 with just 39 strikeouts in 62 1/3 innings. You are taking a big chance starting him in fantasy. A tilt against the Giants next Sunday comes next for Gallardo.
Giants’ Holland strikes out five in no-decision vs. Mets
Derek Holland yielded one run on four hits over five-plus innings of work in a no-decision against the Mets on Monday. Holland limited the Mets offense to a single run on three hits over five innings before running into trouble to open the sixth. He served up a leadoff single to Wilmer Flores and walked Todd Frazier before being lifted in favor of worm-burning reliever Sam Dyson, who induced a double play and ground out to get out of the jam unscathed. He struck out five and only handed out one free pass. The 31-year-old southpaw is 6-8 with a 3.75 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 137/49 K/BB ratio over 134 1/3 innings of work. He’s given up three earned runs or fewer in 19 of his 24 starts. He’ll face the Rangers at home in his next start on Sunday.
