Braves’ Newcomb pounded for seven runs in loss to Rockies
Sean Newcomb got knocked around for seven runs in 5 1/3 innings and took a loss to the Rockies on Friday. Ian Desmond smacked a three-run triple off him in the third inning. Charlie Blackmon laced a two-run triple off him in the sixth. Newcomb can't blame this Rockies beatdown on Coors Field either as it was played in Atlanta. The seven runs is the most he's allowed in a game this year and ties a career high. The 25-year-old left-hander has been good this year, with a 10-6 record and 3.73 ERA in 24 starts.
Marlins’ Hernandez set for spot start vs. Braves
Elieser Hernandez is set to make a spot start for the Marlins on Thursday against the Braves. He'll be filling in for Jose Urena, who is serving a six-game suspension for his seemingly-intentional plunking of Ronald Acuna last week. Hernandez has a 5.08 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in five starts and 21 relief appearances this season with Miami. He is not a recommended fantasy streaming option.
MLB Betting Trends
The Braves are 4-1 in Newcomb’s last five starts and are 7-2 in his last nine outings when he faces a team with a losing record.
The Marlins are 1-5 in their last six home games and are 0-4 in Hernandez’s last four starts.
The Braves simply aren’t hitting the ball. They did very little damage offensively in Pittsburgh and the under is now 5-0 in their last five games. The under is also 7-0 in their last seven games versus a right-handed starter and is 7-3-1 in Newcomb’s last 11 starts when he faces an opponent from the National League East. On the other side, the under is 6-2-2 in the Marlins’ last 10 home games.
The Pick: Braves/Marlins under 8
