Matt Garza (6-7, 4.81 ERA) will start for Milwaukee, while San Francisco sends Matt Moore (4-12, 5.54) to the mound. Garza has had his numbers trend significantly in the wrong way over his last three starts, giving up eight earned runs in 3 1/3 innings at Minnesota and seven earned runs over 4 1/3 innings at Colorado to account for most of the damage. He has a 1.40 WHIP on the season and has a 6.38 ERA over eight road starts. Moore has suffered through a dismal season, but has been superb in his last two starts giving up two earned runs in each game and working at least seven innings in both. He has a 1.52 ERA on the season and has a 4.61 ERA in 13 home starts.
Milwaukee is 66-61 on the season and 31-31 on the road, while San Francisco is 51-77 and 30-35 at home. The season series is tied 3-3 and the total is 2-3-1.
In the second game of the series, Travis Shaw hit a go-ahead RBI single during a two-run top of the seventh inning to send the Brewers to the win. Neil Walker and Eric Sogard both had two hits and scored a run, while Eric Thames tripled and scored a run. Ryan Braun added an RBI single. Jeremy Jeffress earned the win in relief and Corey Knebel picked up his 27th save. Pablo Sandoval and Gorkys Hernandez each had two hits for the Giants, while Brandon Crawford hit a two-run home run. Albert Suarez took the loss in relief.
Milwaukee is in a race for a playoff berth and Garza was pitching well until a couple recent blips, with the one at Coors Field hardly counting. Moore has been poor all season and a couple recent starts are not quite enough to buy in on him yet.
