Erasmo Ramirez (5-4, 4.52 ERA) gets the start for the Mariners, while the Braves will go with R.A. Dickey (8-8, 3.98). Ramirez has been solid in his last two starts since being acquired in a trade in late July. He has allowed only one earned run over 12 innings in the two starts, the last being a 7-1 win versus the Rays. Ramirez has a 1.15 WHIP plus a 2.66 ERA in 40 2/3 home innings. The 42-year-old knuckleballer Dickey has proven reliable all season. He has a 1.36 WHIP and a 3.50 home ERA in 13 starts. Dickey gave up four earned runs over six innings in his last start, a 5-3 home loss to the Reds.
Seattle comes in with a 64-63 record and is 30-31 on the road, while Atlanta is 56-68 and 28-33 at home. The three-game series is tied at a game apiece, with the Braves winning Tuesday’s game 4-0.
Lucas Sims threw six shutout innings for the Braves in Tuesday’s win. Nick Markakis homered, had two hits and drove in two to pace the offense. Freddie Freeman was 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a walk. Matt Kemp added two hits and a walk. Mike Zunino had two of the five Mariners hits. Marco Gonzales allowed two earned runs over 4 2/3 innings to take the loss.
Ramirez is in a good rhythm and the Mariners offense should be able to come alive more in this game than it did Tuesday. The Mariners are still fighting for a wild card spot and games like these are must-win down the stretch.
