The starter for Milwaukee will be Zach Davis (14-6, 4.26 ERA), while the Giants send Chris Stratton (1-2, 4.91) to the mound. Davies has been the beneficiary of great run support this season as evidenced by his win-loss record. He has also pitched very well in five of his last six starts, giving up zero earned runs three times and one earned run once. He allowed one runs on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks over 6 1/3 innings in his last start, a 3-1 home win over Pittsburgh. He has a 1.39 WHIP and is 7-0 on the road this season in 12 starts with a 2.52 ERA. Stratton has made three starts for the Giants this year and his last was by far his best, shutting out the Nationals over 6 2/3 innings with 10 strikeouts in a 4-2 win. He has a 1.52 WHIP.
Milwaukee (65-60, 30-30 on road) has won six of its last seven games, while San Francisco (50-76, 29-34 at home) has lost two in a row. The season series is tied 2-2 with two games going over the total, one going under and another pushing.
The Brewers won two of three games in Colorado including Sunday’s 8-4 triumph. Jesus Aguilar homered twice, while Keon Broxton was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Jonathan Villar contributed three hits. Chase Anderson allowed one earned run in five innings to get the win in his return from the disabled list. The Giants lost 5-2 at home to the Phillies Sunday, wasting a one-run in six innings performance from ace Madison Bumgarner. Hunter Strickland gave up three earned runs in an inning to take the loss in relief. Buster Posey and Brandon Crawford both had two hits.
It is not an ideal situation for the Brewers as they travel from the hitter’s haven of Colorado to the pitcher’s paradise of San Francisco. Davies has been pitching well and Stratton is coming in with extreme confidence after his most recent performance. This total seems a bit high.
