Orioles’ Cashner pitches seven strong innings vs. Mets
Andrew Cashner limited the Mets to two runs across seven strong innings Tuesday in the Orioles’ 6-3 victory. Cashner tallied just three strikeouts while also walking three, but the Mets managed just five singles off of him, scratching together two runs in the fifth inning with back-to-back two-out RBI singles. The big right-hander has now allowed two or fewer runs in three of his last four starts, but unfortunately he gave up 10 runs in that other outing. Even when he pitches well Cashner doesn’t get strikeouts these days.
Blue Jays’ Estrada hit hard in loss to Rays
Marco Estrada was hit hard in Friday’s loss to the Rays, giving up five runs on five hits over his 5 1/3 innings of work. The veteran right-hander struck out six and walked two on the night. He struggled to keep the ball in the yard in this one, serving up a two-run homer to light-hitting catcher Michael Perez and a solo shot to Ji-Man Choi. The inconsistent hurler will carry a 4.84 ERA and 1.28 WHIP into his next start.
