Dodgers’ Kershaw strikes out nine in no-decision vs. Giants
Clayton Kershaw fanned nine batters over eight innings in a no-decision against the Giants on Monday. Kershaw was masterful in this one, generating 16 swinging strikes with his three-pitch repertoire and limiting the Giants to a single run on four hits over eight frames. He struck out nine batters, his most in a single-start since April 15. He did not issue a walk and threw 78 of 110 pitches for strikes. He departed in line for the win, but the Dodgers’ bullpen imploded in the ninth. The 30-year-old southpaw is 5-5 with a 2.47 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and sublime 108/19 K/BB ratio in 18 starts.
Mariners’ Elias will be activated to start Sunday vs. Dodgers
Roenis Elias (triceps) will be activated to start Sunday against the Dodgers. That’s the expectation, at least, after the club listed him as the probable starter for the series finale. Elias was placed on the 10-day disabled list on July 31 with a left triceps strain. He held a 2.88 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 13 appearances with the M’s prior to the injury.
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Dodgers have lost six of eight overall and four of their last five on the road.
Seattle
The Mariners are a perfect 4-0 in their last four Sunday games and 6-1 in their last seven games after scoring five runs or more in their previous game.
Prediction:
The Mariners have been a poor bet when Elias starts. They’re 0-4 in his last four outings overall, are 5-16 in his last 21 home starts, and are 0-6 when he makes the third start of a series. Meanwhile, the Dodgers are 63-22 in Kershaw’s last 85 starts overall, are 57-27 in his last 84 outings on the road, and have won 10 of his last 12 interleague starts.
The Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 (-120)
