According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Rockies are a -153 favorite to win on the moneyline. The Brewers are a +133 underdog, while the over-under is set at 12.5.
The pitching matchup pits Milwaukee rookie Brandon Woodruff (1-1, 1.50 ERA) against Colorado’s Chad Bettis (1-0, 0.00). Woodruff has been impressive in his first two starts, shutting out the Rays in 6 1/3 innings in his MLB debut before allowing two earned runs in 5 2/3 innings in a loss at Minnesota on August 9. He has not pitched for the Brewers in 10 days. Woodruff carries a 1.25 WHIP. Bettis was spectacular in his first start back after coming back from testicular cancer. At Coors Field, he shut out the Braves on six hits in seven innings of a 3-0 win on August 14, striking out two and walking none. He could be a huge addition to the Rockies rotation if he continues pitching well.
Colorado won the opener of the three-game series Friday by a score of 8-4 and now leads the season series 4-1. The Brewers come into action 63-60 overall and 28-30 on the road, while the Rockies are 68-54 and 38-23 at home.
On Friday, Colorado used a pair of three-run innings to take control and go on to the victory. The Rockies received home runs from Charlie Blackmon, Gerardo Parra and Carlos Gonzalez. Nolan Arenado added a triple and two RBIs. German Marquez gave up four runs in 5 2/3 innings to earn the win and also helped his own cause with a double. Domingo Santana, Keon Broxton and Orlando Arcia all hit home runs for the Brewers. Matt Garza gave up eight runs over 4 1/3 innings to take the loss.
Woodruff is making his first-ever start at Coors Field, which is a little concerning. But he’s been good and he’ll have some leeway in order to push the score toward its very high total. Bettis looked awesome in his last start and we’re going to predict it’s not a one-off occurrence. These two teams pushed Friday when the total was 12, but expect this one to stay under the number.
