Goldschmidt, Escobar homer in win
Jon Jay helped spark the Arizona offense from the top of the order in Friday's 9-4 victory as he was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Eduardo Escobar went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, two walks and three runs. Paul Goldschmidt finished 2-for-2 with a home run, three walks, two runs and two RBIs. Steven Souza Jr. was 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs. Ketel Marte went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run. Yoshihisa Hirano earned the win in relief as he threw one spotless inning.
Lucchesi hit hard in defeat
San Diego rookie starter Joey Lucchesi suffered the loss Friday night, surrendering five earned runs on nine hits with six strikeouts and three walks over four innings. Jose Pirela helped pace the Padres offense as he walked twice and scored two runs in five plate appearances. Eric Hosmer was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Hunter Renfroe was 1-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Manuel Margot finished 1-for-4 with a solo homer.
MLB Betting Trends
Zack Godley (13-6, 4.20 ERA) draws the start today for the Diamondbacks, while the Padres are going with Clayton Richard (7-10, 4.98).
The under is 7-3-1 in the last 11 D-backs games overall. The over is 7-3-1 in the last 11 Arizona road games.
The Padres are 5-22 in their last 27 home games. San Diego is 14-39 in its lst 53 games overall.
Godley has pitched great baseball over the last couple months and the Padres struggle a lot against right-handed pitching. I don't think anyone has to overthink this one. Of course anything can happen in baseball, but right now the D-backs are a much better team playing good baseball at the moment and have the much better starting pitcher on the mound.
