Cubs drop another
Chicago has lost the first two games in this series after an 11-1 loss last night. They have also lost four of their last five. The Cubs are 64-56 overall, 23-37 on the road and 60-55 with the under. Yu Darvish gets the start for Chicago today. He is 4-6 on the season with a 4.43 ERA.
The Cubs were held to four hits in Wednesday’s loss, as they fell behind right away and never got into the game. Chicago’s lone run came on Kris Bryant’s 24th home run of the season. Cole Hamels was rocked by his former team, allowing eight runs over two innings with two walks and two strikeouts. He is now 6-4 on the season.
Phillies roll
Philadelphia grabbed an 11-1 victory on Wednesday night for its second straight victory over the Cubs. Philly is now 62-58 on the season, 36-26 at home and 61-56 with the under. Drew Smyly is on the mound today for the Phillies. He is 1-1 on the season with a 3.80 ERA.
Aaron Nola pitched very well last night, improve to 11-3 on the season with another win. Nola allowed one run on three hits over seven innings with seven strikeouts. At the plate, the Phillies were led by Bryce Harper. He homered twice, giving him 24 home runs for the year, and finished with three RBI. J.T. Realmuto added a grand slam in the victory as well.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are 5-2 in their last seven games following a loss, but just 4-11 in their last 15 games against a left-handed starter.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 4-1 in their last five against NL Central opponents and 5-1 in their last six against a winning team.
Prediction:
The Cubs continue to lose on the road and they just can’t seem to figure things out away from Wrigley Field. Darvish takes the mound today, but he hasn’t been a lockdown pitcher by any means. He gave up three runs over six innings to the Phillies earlier this year. Drew Smyly hasn’t looked good in his last two appearances and has some rough numbers on the year for his time with the Rangers. However, Philly has been the stronger team at the plate in this series and the Cubs just can’t be trusted on the road right now.
MLB Prediction: Philadelphia Phillies +125
